On Saturday, July 12, 2014, a full state funeral was held in Orange Walk Town at La Inmaculada Church. The Belize Defence Force provided ceremonial honours and bore the urn.
Following the church service, he was laid to rest in Orange Walk with full state honours.

Both the Government of Belize and the Opposition People’s United Party issued condolences. The PUP publicly acknowledged him as “a world class diplomat,” and offered sympathies “to his wife and children.”
The Tower Hill / Chan Pine Ridge airstrip near Orange Walk was renamed for Ambassador Alfredo “Fred” Martinez, recognizing him as one of Orange Walk’s most prominent sons and a key figure in Belize–Guatemala diplomacy.

Death: Senior Ambassador Alfredo “Fred” Martinez passed away in Guatemala City late on the night of July 8 / early July 9 after “ailing for a few weeks.” He was 60.
At the time of his passing he was serving as Belize’s Ambassador to Guatemala, a post he had held since 2003.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed his death and publicly praised his decades of service, including:

Belize’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Belize Embassy in Guatemala coordinated with Guatemalan authorities and the family for handling his remains.
Since he died in Guatemala City while on diplomatic posting, his remains were cremated there.
Plans were announced for an official state funeral in Orange Walk.
