David was predeceased by his parents.

At the time of his passing, he was survived by his:
Wife, Ingrid Vega and children
Sister: Elvia Vega-Samos

On Monday, December 14, 2020, an official funeral and graveside service was held in Corozal Town.
The body was handled under PPE protocol with limited attendance.
Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Corozal Town.

In the November 2020 elections, David “Dido” Vega, won the Corozal Bay seat for the People’s United Party, defeating the incumbent by more than 400 votes. 


Following the election, he tested positive for COVID-19. He is first treated in Corozal, then transferred and admitted to Belize Healthcare Partners Limited in Belize City.

  • Death: David “Dido” Vega dies from complications of COVID-19 early that morning at Belize Healthcare Partners in Belize City. He was 47. 

  • Context: He passes away only hours before he was supposed to take the oath of office at the inaugural sitting of the 13th National Assembly. The House and Senate observed a moment of silence for him that same day in Belmopan. 

  • National response: Prime Minister John Briceño orders national flags to be flown at half-mast in his honour and announces that he will be given an official/state-level funeral.
