The official funeral service was held in Orange Walk Town at La Inmaculada Church on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

He was laid to rest at Piemonte Cemetery in Orange Walk Town

Mid-1970s - 1984 ::: He represented Orange Walk North in the Legislative Assembly of British Honduras and then in the House of Representatives of Belize after independence in 1981
1979 - 1984 ::: Served as Minister of Energy and Communications under Prime Minister George Cadle Price
1999 ::: He was appointed a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Belize

He’s remembered in Orange Walk for helping push major community projects, including work tied to the construction of the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town.


In April 1985, Elijio Briceño was arrested by U.S. federal agents in Miami and later convicted in U.S. court on conspiracy charges related to the planned importation of marijuana and cocaine into the United States. He received a 7-year sentence and a US$50,000 fine in September 1985.
