A full state funeral was held in Belize. The memorial service took place at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Belize City on Friday, 14 March 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

Immediately following the service, his remains) were laid to rest in Caye Caulker.

At the time of his death, he held the title of Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Belize.

1957 - 1984 ::: He served as Area Representative for the Belize Rural South constituency
November 1984 ::: He signed the township declaration for San Pedro

After his time with PUP, he formed his own political party (with less success) and later joined the United Democratic Party (UDP).

Under the leadership of George Cadle Price, he held ministerial portfolios including:
Minister of Agriculture
Minister of Public Utilities
Minister of Local Government

He was also Chairman of the People’s United Party (PUP) for a period.
He led efforts for San Pedro’s transition from a village to town status.

Louis “Cuz” Sylvester died at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City on Thursday, March 6, of complications from a stroke that he suffered in 2008. Sylvester was 82.


After his passing, it was announced that the Saca Chispas field would be renamed in his honour (with date to be agreed with his family) as part of the tribute.
