At the time of his passing, he was survived by his:
Wife: Odelia Mes and three sons and four daughters
On Friday, May 30, 2014 an official funeral service was held at the Roman Catholic Church in San Pedro Columbia, Toledo District at 10am.
He was first elected in 1998 as PUP Area Representative for Toledo West and served through the 2000s.
He sat in Cabinet and held multiple ministerial posts including Rural Development, Culture, Human Development, Local Government, and Labour
He was publicly recognized as the first Maya Belizean to become a Cabinet Minister, which was treated as historic for Indigenous political representation in Belize.
He died at age 64, on May 26, 2014, at the Punta Gorda Town Hospital following a road traffic accident in Toledo.
