An official funeral service was held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Our Lady of Divine Chapel on Gadsby Ramos Street in Dangriga Town.
Interment followed at the Gethsemane Cemetery.

1998 - 1991 - Mayor of Dangriga
1998–2001 - First Female Speaker of the House of Representatives
2001–2003 - First Female President of the Senate
2003-2008 - She was named a Cabinet Minister under the administration of Prime Minister Said Musa,

She served as a Minister of Human Development, Women and Civil Society, and later as Minister of Defence.

At the funeral, the Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceno, gave the official remembrance speech.


Sylvia Sarita Flores died from natural causes, having for several years been in ill health.
Her health issues included a diagnosis of diabetes, and she also suffered a stroke which further weakened her condition.
She passed away at around 7:30 p.m. at her home in Dangriga, on 6 December 2022.
